How It Works
Articulating concrete revetment systems in conjunction with an underlying geotextile or filter will help retain and stabilize onsite soils from the destructive forces associated with storm events. By acting as ballast for the geotextile, it is important to choose the ideal shape and weight of the concrete units. Once the mattresses are in place, they provide the structural stability to prevent ongoing erosion or scour. Because of their articulating nature and the fact that the cables are cast directly into the concrete, the entire mattress will remain cohesive, while allowing for natural settlement over time.
Open and Closed Cell Designs
- Open-Cell Mattresses: Open-cell concrete units can stop erosion from occurring, and also can reverse erosion affects through the planting of vegetation within the open cells of the concrete. This permanent solution offers sustainable erosion control and restoration. Additionally, the open-cell systems will allow for the hydrostatic release of pressure on wave action applications (or any situation that has a quick drawdown of water).
- Closed-Cell Mattresses: Closed-cell concrete units offer the stability necessary to cover heavily eroded areas, and those prone to catastrophic erosion and continued abuse.
- Vegetation: With both the open and closed-cell Cable Concrete® mattresses, vegetation can take place over time. If vegetation is desired, then soil can be back-filled to just below the top of the blocks, and reseeded.
Largest Cable Concrete® in the USA
Measuring in at 18″ tall and 32″ x 32″ along the base, we produce the largest Articulating Concrete Mattress unit in the USA. An individual unit weights approximately 1,250 lbs.
Why Choose Cable Concrete®?
COST-EFFECTIVENESS
Since onsite assembly is not required, labor costs are kept to a minimum; IECS is the only national manufacturer of articulating concrete block systems that can produce directly on your job site, saving you thousands of dollars in freight costs.
FLEXIBILITY
The integrated design conforms and adapts to any surface, assuring consistent uniform pressure and providing maximum effectiveness.
REUSABILITY
Our mats can be removed and reused for multiple applications and on future sites.
SAFETY
These mats provide a steady surface for humans to walk or drive on. They are safe for animals in their natural habitat, and safe for the environment. Gaps are filled with vegetation or stone, making the mats more transplantable, and thus reducing accidents and hazards.
STABILITY
The integrated cable in Cable Concrete® allows for easy interlocking of many mattresses to form a single, monolithic unit to cover any area required.
WEATHER-RESISTANCE
Wet cast concrete allows for uniform air entrainment, so Cable Concrete® is highly resistant to ice damage and freeze-thaw cycles.
Engineering and Testing
Cable Concrete® has been through extensive testing by engineering departments at The University of Windsor, Ontario, The University of Minnesota, Lehigh University and Colorado State University. Through the variety of product development and implementation phases, which include Research and Development, Design, and Quality Control, the Cable Concrete® systems complies with the well-established ASTM Standards for Articulating Concrete Systems.
Made in America
We see extensive value in our products being made on American soil. IECS supports our national economy by using local labor forces and suppliers to produce Cable Concrete® mattresses. This system invests our customer’s tax dollars back into the local economy and creates American employment opportunities. For jobs that require a large quantity of Cable Concrete® mattresses, we can manufacture on-site to save freight expenses and to diminish environmental impact.
